All Memories Are Lies No comments yet

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly Angelina Jolie said:

“I don’t believe in regrets. It’s a dangerous habit to get into — it makes you pause in your life if you start thinking back and questioning yourself.”

This really resonated with me and I have found it to be true in my own life. The minute I stop to look back, my past catches up with me and I lose the focus to where I am going. It’s like driving the car while looking into the review mirror, we may run into a lot of trees that way!

This is not to say that there is not a time for reflection and solitude. Absolutely there is! I just don’t believe in pondering over events of the past because I have never experienced this to add any value to the present or the future.

Consider this: “All memories are lies”. If you ask two people about a specific event you will get two completely different answers. The same is true for our past. Everything we think happened is an interpretation we are making up about something that may or may not be true.

So, what’s there to do with our past? Not much. I believe that our lives are perfectly alright the way they are!

The Way We Look at Things … No comments yet

Have you ever seen the world through somebody else eyes?

Whenever I drive through LA with one of my friends, I experience a different kind of city! The colors are brighter, the palm tree leaves shinier and there is beauty everywhere. Don’t get me wrong, I like LA, I really, really do. But my friend, she LOVES LA! And when I am with her, I see the city through her eyes.

I am sure you have experienced something similar before, and, it works both ways. I am not a native American and speak English with a (slight ;) ) accent. When I am with someone, who thinks my English is pretty bad, it gets worse very quickly! It may sound strange, but it actually happens.

Wayne Dyers says, “If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.”

In coaching this is essential. The way we perceive others is very, very sensitive and has an influence over who they will become! A good coach sees a person for who they want to be and not for who they think they are. Coaches look through the false image most people have of themselves. We look for the beauty, the brilliance and the soul in others and bring it to the surface.

As humans, we have the power to make those choices. We can see beauty everywhere and turn it into reality.
