Life is Easy - Part I 2 comments
Last week I introduced you to the book “Men Are Easy” by Lynn Rasmussen. All week I couldn’t stop thinking about it. If men can be easy, how about life?
Aren’t we used to making our lives way to hard? You know we do, we can see it every day. It’s a habit we learned early on and it’s hard to let go of it. Or is it?
If you can change your relationship from difficult to easy by altering the way you approach your man, shouldn’t it work with life, too?
Naturally! If you change your approach to life, your life will change. Simple as that. Right! As we all know, old habits die hard and most of the time we are not even aware that we have them!
Therefore the first step in making any change is awareness.
I want to take the opportunity here to introduce you to a set of communication tools that will allow you to make big changes in your life! While the tools are simple and easy to learn, applying them will take some time and practice. The outcome, however, is amazing! One of my clients tripled her sales within one week of changing her communication pattern from arguing to yielding. Now that is pretty cool!
Let’s start with making distinctions. As I said earlier the first step in making changes is awareness. Pay attention and use observation as a tool to make distinctions. Most people are unaware of how they come across to others. Let’s shed some light on your interactions. First, what is your communication style? Are you up-beat or do you complain a lot? Do you acknowledge others or do you bring them down? Do you criticize or do you use encouragement and appreciation? This can be hard. Try to be as honest as you can while keeping your sense of humor!
If you like writing, start a journal to capture your experience. Is one way of communicating more effective than another? Deliberately try out different styles. Change a complaint into an acknowledgment. Ask a curious question instead of blaming someone. What are the results? Do people respond differently?
Let me know what you find out!
Karin
