I am excited to present my new group coaching event! In Only 6 Weeks You’ll Find Out What Your True Gifts Are!
WHAT LIGHTS YOU UP?
Powered by Karin Manske
Find Your Life Treasure, Discover Your Gifts, And Start Living Your Dream!
Are you spending your life the way you are meant to?
Do you wake up each morning excited to get to work, doing what you love?
Or, are you still waiting and hoping for someone to magically show up and tell you how to be happy?
If so, you are not alone!
I DECLARE IT’S TIME YOU GO ON A TREASURE HUNT!

Did you know that you have unique ‘birth’ gifts that set you apart from everybody else in this world?
Are you aware that these very special qualities make up your passion and that discovering them is essential in finding your happiness?
And, even if you don’t know ‘what lights you up’ right now, your gifts are there, ready to be found.
So, let’s go on a treasure hunt … and find those hidden gems, polish them so they can shine your light in the world and bring happiness to you and the people around you!
What? You don’t have time? You are too busy taking your kids to school, putting food on the table and making sure everybody else is taken care off?
And yet, deep down you know that the people you love can’t be happy unless you relax and find your true gift in life.
How do I know? Because I have been there …
I used to be one of the most incredible overachieving moms you can imagine! I lived in an ‘organic’ home, cooked the healthiest meals, took my kids to school on my bike (so we would not pollute the environment), I grew my own organic vegetables, knitted sweaters, made pottery, and baked our own whole grain bread.
The only thing I did not take care of was myself. I was miserable. I did not know that gardening and baking was not my gift, and without noticing I grew harder and angrier and more bitter every day. I simply got my life purpose wrong. Until one day, one of my friends said something. And that’s how my journey started that led me to where I am now …
You can do this, too!
Your gifts are there, waiting to be brought to life! Once you find them you can finally move through life with happiness, confidence and zest. Life becomes fun again … and inspiring!
Stop Doing The Things That Kill Your Aliveness!
Knowing what lights you up can mean the difference between dreading to get out of bed every day to go to a 9-5 job, and rising every morning with a fire in your belly, full of happiness and eager to get to work.
It can mean the difference between modeling a life of passion and joy to your kids … or one of responsible drudgery that slowly kills your soul.
If You Are Finished With Living a Humdrum Existence And Are Ready to Let Your Unique Greatness Shine, This Workshop Is For You!
It is no accident that you have landed here - grab the opportunity and join me for this one-of-a-kind “What Lights You Up” experience and let me help you put the juice back into your life, once and for all!

Today I want to share with you from Beth McDonald’s latest newsletter about Beltane or May Day, when we celebrate the transition from Spring to Summer, from planting seeds to watching them grow. I receive Beth’s wonderful newsletter four times a year and it is always filled with her astrological wisdom and joyful perspectives on the lessons of life.
Spring is Over, Baby, Summer is Here
Let the Games - and the Mystery - Begin!
Observing May Day seems to be the most curious and confounding of all the modern Shabbat day celebrations. We just have trouble figuring it out - what it is and what it means to us - for many reasons. Not least of which is The Name Thing. Beltane probably has more names than any other Shabbat: Beltane, Roodmas, Walpurgisnacht, Cethsamhain, Whitsuntide are just a mere few. Maybe it’s just the literature major in me, but don’t get so hung up on this part. Precision is good, but remember your Shakespeare: a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.
Regardless of what you call it, Beltane is the big party that lies halfway between the Spring Equinox and the Summer Solstice. It has traditionally been observed on May First or May Day, though Lunar observances are sometimes slightly different. The Lunar Beltane this year is May 8th, and for those of you doing ceremony, this will definitely be the more powerful day as it falls in the upcoming Mercury retrograde and the Moon is full in Scorpio.
Regardless of when you celebrate it, Beltane has long been considered to be the beginning of summer, and as such is the last of the three planting and fertility festivals. In ancient times this holiday marked the time crop planting was completed, livestock were bred, and - as was the case with all Shabbat days- ceremonies where held to ensure the fertility of the crops, herds and people and the abundance of future harvests. Often huge bonfires were lit, both to purify the members of tribes and communities and to focus the collective consciousness. In order to clear up the conundrum and determine how, when and what you are celebrating at summer’s official beginning, you have to start in a very Taurean way - with you: your wants and needs, your goals, values and priorities. What is it that you want to create for yourself this year? And why - what redemption do you believe those accomplishment will bring you? What actions must you take now to ensure you will achieve those goals?
And once those things are clear, run them through the filter of the gifts and lessons inherent in the season. Some years they are clearer than others, and this is looking like one of those years. The crappy economy is a tremendous clarifier, isn’t it? And leveler. On the gifts and graces side, it is so much easier now to be aware of and grateful for all the small things - especially what wealth and love there is - that are often so easily taken for granted. Even the lessons are clearer this year. And as usual, the energy of the stars can help brighten the darker places, and show us the way to reach our goals. And the biggest planetary influence right now is definitely Taurus.

If you love somebody, set them free. -Sting
I have been reading (and re-reading) David Meerman Scott’s new book World Wide Rave. It is an awesome source of information on how to use the World Wide Web for innovative marketing ideas.
In it David introduces the 6 rules of the ‘rave’: 1. Nobody cares about your product (except you). 2. No coercion required. 3. Lose control (!) 4. Put down roots. 5. Create triggers that encourage people to share, and 6. Point the world to your (virtual) doorstep.
It is this rule of ‘losing control’ that has me fascinated! The notion of using the internet to give yourself away, to educate customers (rather than to sell them) and to make fans for life through sharing your wisdom is inspiring. For many this may be a new concept that takes some getting used to, yet, it makes sense.
I listened to a tele-class yesterday that was really well done and very intriguing. Towards the end of the call the facilitator was interrupted by a colleague who came on to deliver the company’s sales pitch. This was so out of content that I lost my interest and got off the call. Otherwise, I would have probably stayed on to find out about the company, so I could later roam and explore their website on my own.
Putting content first and sales second is energizing! It takes the pressure out of the sales process and it allows customers to choose with freedom and pleasure from what the market has to offer. Doing business this way is focused on service, and, what I love best, it is very creative.
Now, I want to take it even further: How about putting your clients first and yourself second? Everybody is talking about ‘clients first’ but is that really what’s going on in the market? Isn’t it about us, first? In a way this is a paradox because it is about us and it isn’t. The minute we want something for ourselves and ask ourselves “What’s in it for me?, or “What am I getting out of this?”, we are lost.
In his wonderful Book of Secrets, Deepak Chopra talks about the fact that every cell in our body knows this principle of giving and operates by it. Cells, he says, don’t hoard. Cells work for the welfare of the whole and have total trust on being provided for. Total commitment to giving makes receiving automatic. Selfishness is not an option.
Note: Out of control does not mean out of balance. Balance is essential for any system to function well. Out of control does not mean you should operate without a plan, either. Having a structure is essential for your success.
Losing control in action:
- A teacher at my daughter’s school told me that one of her students learns much better when he is allowed to read books during class. So she lets him.
- A study conducted by the University of Melbourne shows that surfing the Internet for fun during office hours increases productivity. There is even a term for this, “workplace Internet leisure browsing,” or WILB. According to the study, firms spend millions on software to block their employees from watching videos, using social networking sites or shopping online under the pretense that it costs millions in lost productivity, but that’s not always the case.
- In coaching, letting go of control is essential. If I control the coaching process, I completely miss the point of serving my client. If I am consumed with thinking about what’s right for the client, I can’t see what she really needs. This is hard and at the same time most fascinating. The power is in not knowing and in taking yourself out of the equation. It allows magic to occur. By losing control we put others in control of making their own choices.
How about you? How are you losing control in your business? I’d love to hear your stories and if you want to share them, feel free to add them in the comments section.
In my next post I am going to talk about the ‘How’s’ of losing control and the ways we can apply this principle to all areas of our lives.

Is getting fit this year one of your resolutions for 2009? Do you wish you did more exercise but somehow it always slips through the cracks? Then you may want to join me for 365 in 365!
My good friends and fabulous business coaches Mattison Grey of Greystone Guides and Jonathan Manske created this program out of a radio show they hosted “The Top 5 Reasons Why People Do Not Achieve Their Goals” (The radio show is archived at here, it is the January 22 show). According to Mattison, one of the reasons people don’t achieve their goals is that they set the goals too small!
That said (and walking the talk
), Mattison shared a big, huge goal she had just set for herself: To exercise for 365 days in a row - no ifs, ands, buts or excuses! Jonathan joined in and the program was started!
Since then it has grown. Other people joined in and a team was created. Do you want to play, too? It’s easy. You design your own exercise program, you exercise every day and you report your results on a blog and check in with the other players. It’s a lot of fun! If you want to play, please send me an email at karin.at.karinmanske.dot.com and tell me that you ‘are in’.
To your ‘fitness’ success!
